An excerpt from the madness that is "The Mercenary Artist's Manifesto - Revised"
"Goethe, in all his superiority; wrote “I would that the stage were a tightrope, so that no incompetent would dare tread upon it”
Fuck the notion that you can’t make something unless it’s really good. Fuck the notion that art is reserved for some magical beings apart from everyone else.
I would rather see 1000 “bad” plays acted by passionate caring actors who love it, than a single perfect piece of art that isn’t meant for the masses.
Art is like breathing.
Art is a way to share your soul.
As an artist, your job is to make art; and you cannot let potential judgement stop you.
Practice your technique so that you can express yourself well, but don’t you dare stop yourself from making it because of some external judgement. Your art is yours and unique and I want to see it.
As someone once said, ” Whatever you dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now.”
The quote is from motherfucking Goethe.
Well Bruce Lee said “Absorb what is useful. Discard what is not. Add what is uniquely your own.”
Seems like the best way to approach Goethe"
Let me know if any of this resonates for you in the comments.
and as always,
Thanks for making Art
