Priorities
Hey Artists, Been reading ESSENTIALISM and it brings up a good point. A Priority does not mean a list of the things that you want; it means that if you had to choose, this item would beat out all others. And if you don’t know your priorities ahead of time you may choose based on urgency or the opinion of others versus what you really want. so my order of priority is this: 1The integrity of the art 2 The audience 3 Money Every time I have mixed up this order I have regretted i
Rules
Hey Artist, It’s funny. When you’re a kid you get a lot of rules. 99% of the time these rules are not for your benefit, but to make you easier to deal with. And when you‘re an adult, the same is true. Often artists are told to start small, pay their dues, not reinvent the wheel, (insert some other cliche here). We’re told this, not for our benefit but because the person giving this advice had to deal with a ton of bullshit to get where they are ( or that made them settle) and
Art vs Commerce
“Consistency is the death of good acting”-Michael Shurtleff. “...it’s about consistency. Consistent hard work leads to success.”-The Rock Hey Artist, The problem with being an artist today is that were often told to do contradictory things. Though I realize that the two quotes above could look like I’m taking a dig at The Rock, nothing could be further from the truth. I think that both quotes are correct. Unproductivity
Hello Artist, The title of this post may not be a real word. Eh. This is probably not the best way to start a post. Also eh. In fact, If the only thing this post accomplishes is preventing me from repeating these mistakes; it will be well worth it. So goals: Let’s say that you are an actor, and your agent tells you that he needs a 30 second clip of you portraying a lawyer. If you’re like me,your brain says,”let’s do it right”. You decide to audition
It can be promo or revenue. Both is hard.
Youtube videos! Great.Gangnam style! Make a video, it goes viral and make millions in ad revenue right? However; this is a highly unlikely scenario. Particularly with YouTube’s new payment agreement. So are videos pointless? Not at all. YouTube is free ad space. Free promotion. A great way to let people know who you are. pretend that you’re not an artist. Let’s say you made an ad for a car. A new Toyo.., actually let’s go with Yugo. I’ve been threatened with lawsuits enough t
